Cassie & Drew

What a great day this was!

After the great time we had with Cassie and Drew at their engagement session, we were pumped to get shooting their big day. The day started off at with a First Look at their house, then we headed to Iconoclast Coffee (a favourite hangout of these two), took some photos on the edge of the new Brewery District, before finally heading off to the Old Timers Cabin for the ceremony and reception.

Thank you Cassie and Drew for letting us capture your wedding. Here's to many awesome years ahead!

Lacey & Chad's Wedding

We met Lacey at the Bridal Fantasy show back in January this year. We seemed to impress her with our work (and our charm, I’m sure) and she booked us on the spot! I’m sure Chad was a little startled to find out they had booked a photographer without his knowledge, but we met with the two of them a few weeks later and Chad gave his stamp of approval as well.

We spent their wedding day hanging out with their gigantic wedding party (18 people including the couple) and had a blast! For their photos we went to a great, rustic location in downtown Edmonton (where the ladies even managed to get photos in front of a fire truck) then headed off to Mercer Tavern to have some food and drinks and take more photos. The Mercer staff have always been great to us whenever we’ve camped out at their place on wedding shoots.

On a lucky note, Rogers Place arena was set to open about a month after their wedding so we managed to get a few shots of them with the nearly-complete building in the background. As those of you from Edmonton can attest, it is an amazing structure.

The reception was a fantastic event (Lacey did an amazing job with all of the details for sure!). One of the best things was that they ensured their son was a part of the day. He seemed to quite enjoy himself and he looked pretty darn cool too!

Lacey & Chad, we wish you all the best!!!

Anxiety

Theatre Yes returns with an intense new project. Anxiety opens this week and promises to be a unique experience. Audiences are taken into 6 small intimate performances that will challenge the heights of joy and the depths of despair.

Once again, we are pleased to work with them to devise their promotional materiel. We focused what an audience member may be feeling the moment before they open the door and step into on the the performances.

If you want to check out this one-of-a-kind performance, the details are below.

Morgan, Ben, & Ronan

We pride ourselves on being a creative duo. We thoroughly love when we are able to provide creative input for shoots when we work with various theatre groups. We love being able to advise our other clients on possible locations, wardrobe, and general theme of the shoot. But every once in a blue moon we get to work with someone like Morgan.

Morgan and her husband Ben were expecting their first child and Morgan was looking to get Maternity photos done. But not just any old photos – she had something in mind. She wanted the shoot to be based on John Waters 1990 movie, Cry Baby, starring Johnny Depp. And we loved the idea!!

When we met downtown for the shoot Morgan arrived looking so much like Ricki Lakes’ character Pepper Walker - it was awesome! The shoot was so much fun. Morgan totally played up the character in every way and we all laughed a great deal in between shots.

Flash forward several weeks and we switch gears for our visit with Morgan and Ben and their new arrival, Ronan. This shoot may not have been “themed”, but it was still a lot of fun.

Ronan is definitely a cutie. It was also great to see how their dog Maybelline was obviously comfortable with this new human in her life.

Congrats to Morgan and Ben on the arrival of their son Ronan.

Cassie and Scott - Engagment Session

The thing about Alberta, is the skies.

One of the big advantages of living here is the way the sky changes so quickly and intensely. Cassie and Scott's engagement session was a perfect example of this. We headed to the Terwilligar Dog Park, a favourite haunt of these three, for some shots among the trees and grass.

What started as a calm night, turned into one of the darkest skies of the summer, before switching back as nothing ever happened. It let us capture some great moments on a beautiful backdrop.

Check out what we got from this fun evening.

Fiona & James

Fiona is a long time friend and I couldn't be happier that she asked us to be a part of her big day. When Brad and I arrived at the Hotel MacDonald to get photos of them getting ready, the sky opened up and threw down the hardest rain we have seen all summer. As they dressed, the rain pummeled the outside of the hotel and didn't seem like it was going to let up.

But it did, and we got some shots around the hotel before heading to their beautiful ceremony at the amphitheatre at Hawrelak Park.  From there, we hit a few awesome spots around town before landing at the Muttart Conservatory for a fantastic reception.

It was such a beautiful day. We just wanted to share it with you.

Jill & Brendan

We loved working with these two.

After an awesome engagement session in Hawrelak Park we knew their big day was going to be a great one. The bright, sunny day started out at the Nova Hotel, then we headed to a beautiful ceremony at the Grace Lutheran Church.

When we met them before the wedding, Brendan mentioned he had a friend at Parlour, a fantastic Italian restaurant in Edmonton. After the ceremony, we brought the wedding party to the restaurant where they opened early for us and served some delicious pizza. Places like this always lend themselves as fantastic backdrops for wedding photos.

After the photos were done, we headed to the Italian Cultural Centre for a wonderful reception and great music.

We are so happy with how these shots turned out. Congrats Jill and Brendan!

Working

Day 6

Plain Jane Theatre is back! Hot off their production of Wish You Were Here and last year's Fringe hit, A New Brain, we are so happy to be working with them on... Working.

Talking about the show, we landed on the idea that the marketing material for this show should really focus on the jobs, less the people doing them. With that, shot all the performers with the intent of producing 7 different posters each showing a moment in time of each of the jobs.

It was a lot of fun to put together.

If you want to check out the show, details are below.

Avery & Chris

These two won the motherload!

Avery and Chris were the grand prize winners at this year's Bridal Fantasy. Out of all the photo sessions they won that day, they picked us to work with for their engagement session. We were very honoured.

We headed out to Devonian Gardens for a quick afternoon session. The weather was beautiful, and the married couple to be were a lot of fun to work with. Check out some of our favourite shots from the day.

Good luck on this next awesome adventure Avery and Chris!

April Portrait Blitz - Jessica & Dustin

This session was a great example of why we love photo blitzs. We worked with Jessica a few times in the past as part of production photos for various theatre projects over the past few years. When we posted the times for the blitz, Jessica reached out as she wanted to use at least part of the session to get new head shots. Then with the remaining time, we could get some photos with her and her partner Dustin.

That's why these sessions work. You get 30 mins. What you want to do with that time is completely up to you. Check out what we got from the day (minus the head shots which are still being finished).

Enjoy!

April Portrait Blitz - Lindsay, Neil, & Sadie

This kid was ridiculous. I don't think we have ever had a baby who posed so well for photos. Every time it was her turn to focus on the camera, her head whipped around and she was ready to go. She was better than some adults we know.

What stands out about this session to us is that it feels so downtown Edmonton. It features some of our favourite locations and with the addition of the rain on the ground and the cloud cover it made for a perfect little shoot.

It was great meeting you guys! Looking forward to next time.

April Portrait Blitz - Krystina & Jacob

We have worked with Krystina many times over the years. Mostly through her work at the Legislature of Alberta. It was so nice to finally have her in front of the camera and to meet her partner Jacob.

What really stands out about this session is their personalities. Most couples have never had photos taken before and it can be a strange thing. This couples laughter and the way they  just let themselves have fun really translated in the photos.

Can't wait to work with them in the future.

April Portrait Blitz - Betts & Her GIANT Family!

When we posted the event for the latest Blitz, we included the line: “Whether you bring 1, 2, or 20 people, we will do all we can to capture your family the best way possible in the time slot you choose”. Well, Betts put that to the test for sure. Ultimately 19 family members showed up for their session. It was a fantastic challenge indeed!

Our first shoot with Betts and her family was quite a bit smaller in scale, but Betts did a great job preparing everyone for this Blitz session. She had a list of all the combinations she wanted to photograph and we managed to get it all done. We think her efforts paid off.

April Portrait Blitz - Cheryl & Family

Cheryl

I know Cheryl from my day job. She was one of the first people that I connected with when I started there so I was thrilled when she said she wanted to participate in the Blitz with her and her family.

We had a lot of fun on their session. It was the first shoot we’ve done that included a reptile, so that was definitely interesting! Also, we managed to capture a few photos with a naturally-occurring smoke machine (well, it was just the vent from the building, but we were still happy to be there at the right time).

Here are some of the photos of Cheryl and her family, including iguana (it might be a bearded dragon, I’m not up on these things, sorry Cheryl):

April Portrait Blitz - Sam & Her Dad

I’ve known Sam for many years now. She’s great for MANY reasons, but especially because she’s a diehard baseball fan. Yes, her favourite team is the Chicago Cubs, so that’s a little strange, but still, she loves baseball!

When she saw that we were having a Blitz, she came up with a great idea for a gift for her Mom on Mother’s Day – photos of her and her Dad in their jerseys. Of course I LOVED that idea!

It was fun coming up with different poses that wouldn’t end up looking just like baseball cards (although, that wouldn’t be the end of the world in my opinion).

April Portrait Blitz - Nora & Family

This was our third time shooting Nora and her family. The first time we met them, they were a group of three expecting a fourth. For this shoot, they showed up with a whole other generation. It was a real treat to meet the parents of this little clan, and it was fun to walk around 104 St capturing them.

Despite the cold of the early Sunday morning, they were troopers. I love how these shots really capture the personality of this group.

See for yourself.
