The Aliens

We got the chance to work with What It Is Productions again on their latest theatrical outing. In the past we've done work for such projects as Ligature Marks and Nighthawk Rules which both premiered at the Edmonton Fringe Festival. The Aliens, is their first foray into a main season production as part of Theatre Network's Roxy Performance Series, and we couldn't be happier to be a part of it.

The main poster design was a fun one to shoot. As the show takes place behind a cafe, we wanted to capture several of the moments of the show in an overlapping composite image.

They open tonight! Got check them out. Details below.

The Believers

dbphotographics here with yet another theatre poster. This time we had the pleasure of working with Nancy McAlear of the MadFandango Theatre Collective to help promote their latest production of The Believers.

When we met with Nancy to discuss the project, the discussion surrounded the idea of negative space. There's an element of something looming that the characters in the show are missing. We are pumped with how this session turned out and the feedback we've been getting. Can't wait to check out the show. If you are interested in seeing it, here are the details.

Bust 'Em Up Burlesque

Send in the Girls Burlesque has hit the big time!

Their new show, Bust 'Em Up Burlesque is opening tonight at the Citadel Theatre. We were so happy to be working with them to build promotional images for the fourth time.

For this shoot, we broke away from tradition where we shoot against a black wall, and went out into the real world. We first went to a house with an awesome claw bathtub, then headed over to the Mercer Tavern for the remainder of the session.

The Mercer was such a great fit because it has an actual large safe built right into the wall which fit perfectly with the 1920s bank robber setting of the show.

We will be there tonight for their opening. Can't wait to see it. You should see it too.

Wish You Were Here

I can't see the title of this show without getting Pink Floyd stuck in my head.

This was a really fun session. We got to work with one of our favourite theatre companies in town, Plain Jane Theatre. Every time we collaborate with Kate Ryan and crew, we know we are in for a great time and creative project. Their new show, Wish You Were Here: The Ultimate Traveller's Guide to the World, is a musical voyage of the work of Noel Coward across the globe. It instantly hit us that a retro looking postcard would help sell the idea.

We're pretty happy with how it turned out. If you are interested in checking out the show, it opens today! Details below:

Wish You Were Here-The Ultimate Traveller's Guide to the World

March 4-12, 2016 at the Varscona Backstage Theatre

“Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun!”The Janes have created a new revue inspired by one of theatre's most witty and provocative writers-Noel Coward, who's wanderlust inspired many of his greatest songs and plays.

Bone Cage

Theatre Yes is back and we are happy to be working with them again.

This time they are producing Catherine Banks' Bone Cage. We love working with this group.  Every time they approach us, we know we are in for something cool, and that we will have the artistic license to help sell the emotion of their upcoming project.

In meeting for this show, we talked a lot about the rage and frustration that is an underlying current throughout the story. We made that a central theme of the images. There has been a lot of positive feedback on how these turned out.

See for yourself, then follow the links to get all the info on the show.

BONE CAGE is a poetic masterwork set in a rural Nova Scotia town where logging is the way-of-life. The play follows the  unraveling of a group of tough-talking group of twenty-somethings who ache to take the world by storm but are hobbled by life in their industry town. The play is an urgently contemporary coming of age story that calls out poignantly to Alberta  where the backbone of the economy is built on volatile industries and jobs often come at a distinct personal price.

It's Love and Other Reasons to Panic

This was such a fun session. We spent a lot of time with Elisa and Delia trying to nail the tone of their upcoming show, It's Love and Other Reasons to Panic premiering this week at the Edmonton Fringe festival. We love how this turned out and would also love if you went to see them in action.

Here are the show details:

Victoria and Rachel are an unlikely pair, and when they meet it's not exactly love at first sight. Victoria, not feeling completely fulfilled, leaves her relationship of 7 years to rediscover who she is and find her confidence. Rachel is a powerhouse with a bit of a clumsy side perfectly happy with being on her own and in control of her own life. But when Rachel meets the man of her dreams, these ladies lives will take a very different turn; especially since Rachel's new love interest, is Victoria's ex-fiancée. They say opposites attract, but will their new friendship survive being this opposite? Come and have a laugh while these two ladies try and figure out what love means.

Ludwig & Lohengrin

We love doing shoots for theatre companies. We get even more excited when they ask us to follow up with promotional design work.

That's exactly what Third Street Theatre did for their upcoming production of Ludwig & Lonhengrin, which is opening at the end of this month. Even though they are based out of Calgary, it worked out that the playwright and star was in Edmonton last week so we were able to arrange a session.

We went to the river valley and set out to capture the feel of this production. The grey skies really lent to the ambience and I think that comes through in the shots.

Check out the details for their production below and if you like what you see, hit up their Facebook page to stay up to date with this and future productions.

Ligature Marks_

The Edmonton International Fringe Festival is right around the corner. This is one of my favourite times of year because the theatre scene explodes with creativity and photography wise, it really allows us to flex our design muscles.

One such project is Ligature Marks by What It Is Productions. I have worked with this combination of artists a few times in the past so I had a sense of what they were wanting.

This show looks great. I had a chance to read the script and it seems like a very interesting project.

Make you you get your tickets soon!

See you at the Fringe!

The Hollywoodland Burlesques

SEND IN THE GIRLS!

Have you bought your tickets yet?

Well, you can't because they aren't on sale yet, but when they are, SNAP THEM UP QUICKLY!

On the heels of two completely sold-out Fringe runs, these girls are back with their newest show, The Hollywoodland Burlesques.

We were honoured to once again be in charge of their photos and promotional material.

We're pretty happy with how it turned out.

See the other work we have done for them in the Design section of our page.

See you at the Edmonton Fringe!

Make Out City

Make Out City!

A very cool band with a very cool look. We struggled when planning this session to find a place that would fit their 1960s mod look. We stumbled on the Cask & Barrel which couldn't have been a better, more accommodating place.

The feel we were going for was a sense of hanging out with these four, but 50 years ago. With a little scotch, a few cigarettes and a rad location I think we pulled it off.

Check out these guys on Facebook.

The Dungarees are back!

We are so honoured to have The Dungarees ask us back to do their latest set of promotional photos. The last round we did was more of a night shoot where we got to use our lights. This one was right around sunset. These guys are just awesome and it is always fun to work with them. We even got to do some climbing.

If you are in Calgary for the Stampede this year, make sure to check them out opening for Reba McEntire  at the Saddledome on July 13th.
